Dr Masum: Vice-chancellor of USITEC university of Malaysia

BACK FROM MALAYSIA: We were waiting for the good news. Before I returned from Malaysia on November 21 that news was somewhere caught delayed.

Lastly in the evening of November 27 Dr Masum personally gave me the news over telephone. He has been appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of USITEC University which is one of the best ‘varsities of that country. Earlier he was working as the pro vice-chancellor in the same university.

When I had gone to Malaysia I was supposed to meet him within a day or two. But due to his preoccupation for shifting his residence to Putrajaya the meeting could not be held. Afterwards I talked to him at a restaurant of Ampang.

At the earliest of 1987 he came to Malaysia. Though it was not possible in Bangladesh, this brilliant son of Bagerhat has established himself as the vice-chancellor of a university of South –East Asia at the age of only 45.

Besides, vice-chancellor of USITEC he is also the chairman of Middle Eastern Business World group of companies.

Dr. Masum did BBA on e-commerce from USA and did MBA on cooperative micro-finance. He completed his Phd on Insurance from Malaysia and obtained MCL degree on comparative corporate law. Moreover he earned MMb and LLB degree.

He is also performing the responsibilities as director of Islamic Chamber of Commerce & Industries (ICC) for a long time. He also performed as the in- charge of Global Trade and Investment co-operation. He served as the teacher King Abdul Aziz University of Saudi Arabia and International Islamic University, Malaysia.

He authored more than thirty books on Finance and Corporate. These books are taught in the famous universities of the world. This famed teacher also contributed more than two hundred articles in several journals. He delivers his lectures as a professional lecturer in various conferences, seminars and workshops in different places.

Beside, being observer of Qatar National Research foundation he represents in the editorial board of a number of International journals.
He, as a professional expert is representing more than thirty financial and corporate industries of different countries.

He is now working as an adviser of central bank of Malaysia. He also works as adviser of Singapore NTUC, Ar-Nur of South Africa and ICMIF, London. He is performing the responsibilities as chairman of many International non-government organizations.

He has a feeling to do something for his own country. He thinks for the politics of his country.

While sitting in the restaurant at Ampang he expressed his frustration over the political situation and said, “It needs a change. Good governance should be established. We have a skilled manpower. Bangladesh is a country full of potentialities. However, due to political interference in every sectors the country is lagging behind in every step.”

Dr. Masum considers familial heir in politics in his own country as a malignant boil. He said, “Those who came in politics did not come with their capability rather they all came as the familial heir.”

He told, “If democracy is to be established in the country then there must be democracy within the party. But those are not happening. The parties are growing centering the families.”

masumFrom his experiences from International economic planning he informed about constructing the Padma bridge from own resources. He said, “The country which possesses the capability of winning Nobel Prize, that country can build it by own resources. Padma Bridge can be built by introducing cooperative micro-band. Simultaneously, Padma Bridge can be brought within Share Market.”

Dr Masum opined that if Padma Bridge can be enlisted in the share market, people will rush to purchase the share of Padma bridge. Each share can be valued at One Dollar. Share holders can sale their shares any time at their will.

He thinks that the value of Padma bridge share will definitely jump. If people invest here they will make profit out of it. This will help the government to collect interest free money as well as the people will become the owner of Padma Bridge one day.

Besides, if other co- investors come forward then it is possible to build Padma bridge from own resources. He also thinks that by building tourism spots and recreational centers on the two side sides of the bridge resources can be mobilized.

He is leading a dignified life in Malaysia and has earned the title of ‘Datu’. This economist is playing an important role in the economic planning of Malaysia and also as a policy maker in the government.

He disclosed a new information about the Bangalees residing in Malaysia. He informed that like the Chinese and Malayee there are Bangalees here by birth origin. He informed that about more than hundred years back the Bangalees came to Malaysia. Many of them can speak in Bangla but cannot write. But the birth origin Bangalees do not maintain contacts now.

He further told that if those Banglees could build up a strong community here then we would have raised our head on a strong footing.
