FROM BANGKOK (THAILAND): There are records that many dying patients returned on foot after taking treatment at Bumrungrad Hospital. Service is the prime policy of the hospital than the consideration of action or reaction of drugs.
Privately run Bumrungrad International Hospital is the biggest of its kind in South East Asia. There is no ‘Bua or Aya’ for cleaning the stool or urine of patients. There is one nurse for every four patients who generally clean those. The cleaners only clean the floor of hospital rooms. They cannot even touch the patients.
One Zakir Hossain, an expatriate of Oman who came here for treatment just termed the nursing services as ‘pure mother care’.
One Bangladeshi patient Tarif Abdullaha’s younger bother Sohel expressed similar views. He told banglanews that the patients get cured very rapidly due to the nursing services. The nurses never feel tired in rendering services to the patients.
According to data supplied by the hospital authority, around 12 lakh patients from abroad come here annually for whom 900 specialized doctors are available.
The hospital is a bit expensive. However, about 3 to 5 thousand patients take treatment here either as outdoor patients or admitted patients. There are 8 interpreters for the Bangladeshi patients.
Speaking on the secrets of becoming best, customer service officer (Bangladesh) MA Hassan and Fatema Noorjahan told that it is due to the tireless services of the nurses. Hassan told that these nurses render their best efforts for all patients without any complain. They also try to make the patients psychological boosting alongside service.
It costs Bangladeshi Tk 8,000 for thorough check up of one male patient for diagnosing the basic problems. While for a female patient it costs Tk 13,000.
Again for complicated examination of all the organs of a male patient it costs Tk 42,000 while for a female above forty age it costs Tk 48,000.
According to the data of the hospital the biggest number of cancer patients from all over the world comes to Bumrungrad Hospital because this hospital is cheaper than any other hospital for pat scanning, cancer prevention and cleaning, chemotherapy, surgical oncology and bone marrow transplantation.
Besides, all treatments of cardiovascular diseases, stone infection in the kidney also are done here. There are arrangements of fertility center for issueless couple, obstetrics and pre-natal genetics.
Regarding the professionalism of this hospital one official without disclosing his identity told banglanews that the doctors always listen to the patients whatever he/she feels to tell. They finish all listening before taking the fees.
According to the version of the Bangladeshi representative, they do not answer the questions like how many days it will take to be cured, how long I will survive or whether I will be hundred percent cured? They only say it is the Almighty who knows or let us see. They also give stress on the mental health of the patient before physical treatment. They are courteous and always smiling.
The patients at Bumrungrad also emphasized on ‘no compromise’ attitude of the doctors regarding discipline. Abu Khalid from Dubai told that the doctors give no concession regarding the treatment. The patient must get prescribed tests done or take prescribed drugs otherwise the doctors won’t attend the patient.
A Bangladeshi patient intends to get treatment at Bumrungrad shall have to go to the referral office located at Panthapath in Dhaka. The attendants at referral office first listen to the patient and go through the file of previous treatments and those are sent to the administration department of the hospital. The intending patient then get name of the doctor and time in the return e-mail.
The country manager of Bangladesh ANM Kamalur Rahman Bhuyian hold detailed talks with the patient. Then the appointment with the selected doctor, costs of treatment, information about treatment, assistance for getting visa, arrangement of boarding at Bangkok and service of interpreter are made available.
Those who take treatment by official money or with the monetary help of others they generally prefer Mount Elizabeth of Singapore, still the second choice is Bumrungrad. Bangladeshi country manager ANM Kamalur Rahman termed Bumrungrad as the ‘Mount Elizabeth’ for the middle class people.
