In a bid to reduce the sufferings of poor and middle-class customers, Bashundhara Group started fair price sales of 21 essential commodities in eight divisional cities including Dhaka on Thursday (June 1) ahead of Eid-ul Azha.
Bashundhara Food and Beverage arranged ‘fair price sales’ of commodities across the country.
Mirajul Islam Ukil, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Commerce inaugurated the programme as the chief guest in the opening ceremony in front of the Secretariat in the capital this morning.
Shamima Akhtar, Joint Controller of the Commerce Ministry and Ahmed-Uz-Zaman Laskar, Manager (Brand) of Bashundhara Food and Beverage, were also present.
In his speech, Mirajul Islam Ukil applauded Bashundhara Group for keeping prices of commodities stable in line with government policy.
He said: " "Undoubtedly, this is a very good initiative. Due to the increase in the prices of commodities, when people with low incomes are suffering, the Bashundhara Group has come forward with products at a low cost for them. Therefore, they deserve thanks. I hope they will continue this initiative and expand it further."
Shamima Akhtar, Joint Controller of the Commerce Ministry, said, "If everyone from the private sector, like the Bashundhara Group, comes forward for the low-income people, then the pressure on the government will decrease. The people of the country will also be better off. We are all together as a nation. It is very good if there is an opportunity for everyone to do something from their respective positions. This initiative of the Bashundhara Group is highly commendable."
Ahmed-Uz-Zaman Laskar, Manager (Brand) of Bashundhara Food and Beverage, said, "We earlier continued this program throughout the month of Ramadan. Now we have started this program again. It will continue until Eid."
He further said, " Bashundhara Group is working for the welfare of the country and its people. We are taking the initiative to keep this program running in a larger area from that vow. You will see the results of this in the coming days."
Bashundhara Food will start selling commodities at 10 am from trucks at Karwan Bazar and Secretariat areas in Dhaka.
