The government today (June 4) has permitted the import of onions from Monday in response to recent rising prices.

A notification has been issued in this regard by the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Ministry of Agriculture made the decision in the interest of limited-income people who are suffering from abnormal increases in onion prices, according to a press release.

On Monday, onion prices reached as high as Tk100 per kg in various kitchen markets across the country, making it unaffordable for low-income people to purchase.
