South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Park Young-sik on Saturday (September 16) highlighted the significance of the car factory as a unique milestone in Bangladesh's developmental journey.
He expressed his satisfaction with the establishment of the car manufacturing plant in Bangladesh and said that it serves as an exceptional illustration of the country's preparations for the next phase of development.
The Ambassador made the remarks during a visit to the Fair Technology-Hyundai factory at the Bangabandhu Hi-Tech Park.
He also said that many countries have already discontinued the import of used cars, suggesting that Bangladesh should consider adopting a similar policy to reduce its reliance on imported second-hand vehicles.
Manufacturing cars domestically would bolster the nation's economy and contribute positively to environmental sustainability, he further said.
Expressing further interest in investment in Bangladesh, South Korean Ambassador, however, put emphasis on the potential for an enhanced investment environment in Bangladesh through Tax management.
Ruhul Alam Al Mahbub, the founder and chairman of Fair Group, said, "Our journey begins from here. We have a long way to go. We aspire to engage in more modern car production. To achieve this, we need to train our skilled workers."
He added, "Mongolia, Vietnam, Laos, and many African countries have already stopped using second-hand cars. To protect the environment, we should follow suit."
According to the company officials, this joint venture between South Korea and Bangladesh produces 150 cars every month, with the capability to manufacture 600 cars per month.
During the visit, Director and CEO of Fair Technology Limited Mutassim Daiaan, Daily Sun Editor, and President of the Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB), Rezaul Karim Lotus, among others, were present.
