DHAKA: Thailand labour market will soon open up for Bangladeshis especially in the sea fishing, manufacturing and construction sectors.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand Saida Muna Tasneem, during a recent call on that Thai Labour Minister Surasak Karnjanarat underlined the need for expediting the process of concluding an MOU at the earliest for recruitment of Bangladeshi workers in Thailand.

Embassy of Bangladesh in Bangkok confirmed the matter to banglanews through press release.

The Bangladesh envoy highlighted the G2G initiatives for low-cost exploitation-free ethical labour recruitment being promoted by the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The ambassador also underscored that early resumption of negotiations between the two governments to finalize the Term of Reference (TOR) for the proposed MOU.

Under the MoU, Bangladesh workers especially in the sea fishermen, construction, manufacturing sectors would be enable to contribute to the economies of both countries, the envoy added.

The Minister of Labour of Thailand, with which Bangladesh enjoys excellent bilateral relations, assured Bangladesh of re-initiating negotiations for finalizing the proposed MOU at an early date and expressed interest of his government to recruit workers from Bangladesh under the MOU. 

Kazi Russel Pervez, Counsellor of the Embassy and Ali Haider Chowdhury, Senior Vice President of BAIRA and Ali, BAIRA's local representative accompanied the Ambassador during the call on. 

Thailand is currently regularizing around 1.6 million undocumented workers from ASEAN countries including Myanmar, Cambodia and Lao PDR, and may consider recruitment of foreign workers from non-ASEAN countries once this process is completed and subject to market demand.
