DHAKA: Pakistan High Commissioner in Bangladesh Shuja Alam on Tuesday signed a MoU with Micro Industries Development Assistance and Services (MIDAS), Bangladesh on enterprise and skill development program for women entrepreneurs belonging to SME sector of the country.

Acting Managing Director of MIDAS Mashi-ur- Rahman signed the MoU on behalf of the organization.

Under this agreement, Pakistan High Commission will provide funds for three-week long training courses on enterprise and skill development for 60 women entrepreneurs on mini garments.

A press release that was issued on Tuesday, disclosed the matter.

The training program under this MoU will be designed in a way to incorporate formal education on formulation of effective business plans with skill based learning activities.

The participants of these programs will also be provided a proper marketing platform to sell their products as part of the course. In this regard, MIDAS will also organize SME Trade Fairs in Dhaka and other districts of Bangladesh. 

On the completion of the project, a workshop involving participation of women entrepreneurs, business associations and financial institutions working for the uplift of women based SMEs will be jointly organized by MIDAS and Pakistan High Commission.

Shuja Alam also said integrating women SMEs in the mainstream economy remains a major concern amongst developing countries as due to resource constraints and lack of technical education, women in SMEs find it difficult to use their skills in a more productive way.

He also appreciated the role of women in SME sector of Bangladesh and said that the women entrepreneurs are playing a significant role in economic development of their country.
