Tk 97,000crore ADP okayed Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal

DHAKA: The government has approved Annual Development Programme (ADP) of Tk 97,000 crore for the upcoming 2015-16 fiscal.

Of these, the government will provide Tk 62,000 crore while it expects to receive Tk 34,500 crore as project grants.

It included Tk. 3,996 crore for self-financed projects of autonomous organisations, increasing the size of ADP to Tk 1,00,996 crore

The approval came from a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday.

After the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal disclosed the matter to reporters.

He said the ADP will be implemented in next fiscal. Earlier, the planning ministry placed Tk 92,500 crore ADP in the NEC meeting.

But on basis of demands of different ministries and departments, the prime minister okayed the extra ADP, he added.

He also said power sector will get additional Tk 1,000 crore allocation as per its demand.   Besides, the communications sector demanded more Tk 800 crore allocation while shipping sector wanted additional Tk 300 crore.

According to him, the transport sector got the highest priority in the new ADP followed by the power sector and the physical infrastructure, water supply and housing sector.

Meeting sources said the NEC allocated Tk. 20,236 crore for the communications sector, including Tk. 7,400 crore for the much-hyped Padma Multipurpose Bridge project under the ADP allocation in the coming fiscal year.

The Power sector will receive the second highest allocation of Tk. 19,485 crore, followed by the physical infrastructure, water supply and housing sector Tk. 10,458 crore, the education sector Tk. 10039 crore ,the rural development and institutions sector (Tk. 6,871 crore) and the agricultural sector Tk. 8,434 crore.

On the other hand, housing and public works ministry will get Tk 1,325 crore, while home ministry Tk 1038.66 crore, foreign ministry Tk 116 crore, law and justice department Tk 329.3 crore and commerce ministry Tk 220.35 crore.

The Annual Development Programme (ADP) of the current 2014-15 fiscal was Tk 86,000 crore.
