DHAKA: Country’s apex business body Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) president Abdul Matlub Ahmad commented that a new horizon in Bangladesh-India ties in sight.

He made the comment to the media after his meeting with visiting India premier Narendra Modi at Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel on Sunday noon.

The business boss said, ‘We have welcomed Narendra Modi on behalf of Bangladesh business community. We hope that the treaties signed between Bangladesh and India will bring the bilateral ties at a new height’.

According to Matlub, the treaties will play roles in reducing trade gap between the two neighboring countries.

‘We have also called for a joint ‘working group’ in private sector aiming to increase Indian investment here as well as to increase Bangladesh export volume there,’ he added.

He further informed the media that Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has proposed to India premier for 50-acre land for Bangladesh investment to establish ‘Importing Company of Garments’ there.

‘It will create market for Bangladesh garment products in India,’ he opined.

According to Matlub, the India premier has welcomed the proposal.

Moreover, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries president Mahbubul Alam has also proposed Modi to construct a deep-sea port in Chittagong.

Modi smiled in reply, Matlub added.
