DHAKA: Civil society think-tank Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) expressed their concern saying that the proposed national budget will face a revenue deficit of Tk 30,000-crore.

The organization’s executive director Dr Mostafizur Rahman made the concern in his keynote paper at a post-budget discussion at a city hotel on Saturday morning.

He said revenue collection will be one of the top challenges of the government in the proposed budget.

According to him, the current budget has a deficit of Tk 30,000-crore.

‘If revenue collection cannot fulfill the target, it hampers reaching the target of the budget,’ he added.

CPD executive director informed the audience that at least Tk 57,000-crore private investment is needed to achieve 7 percent gross domestic product (GDP).

He further said that it will also be a big challenge for the government to implement Tk 97,000-crore annual development program in the proposed budget.

Planning minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, economist Professor Rehman Sobhan, former adviser to caretaker government Dr AB MIrza Azizul Islam, state minister for finance and planning MA Mannan and Planning Commission member Arastu Khan, among others, were also present at the event.
