DHAKA: The World Bank (WB) Dhaka office chief economist Zahid Hussain termed the Bangladesh’s proposed national budget 2015-16 ‘massive and conventional’.

He made the comment on the proposed budget at a press conference at city’s Agargaon area on Monday morning.

According to Zahid, the top challenge of the proposed budget is to achieve 7 percent gross domestic product (GDP) as the country has some risks in economic sector.

He said, ‘We have some weaknesses in investment environment as well as have risks in readymade garments (RMG)’.

The hike of fuel price may generate more challenges, he said adding, ‘uncertainty is still prevailing in country’s political stability’.

However, the economist lauded the decrease of interest rate and mentioned the current inflation rate is satisfactory.

World Bank country director Salman Zaidi and its communications officer Mehrin A Mahbub, among others, were present at the conference.
