DHAKA: Okapia, a cell phone manufacturer that is fast becoming one of the most popular brands in Bangladesh, launched handset models in the past keeping in mind the market demand and customer requirement.

This time, Okapia launched their latest model of handset ‘Okapia Maa’, which has been designed to cater to the senior citizens of the country, says a press release issued on June 30 (Tuesday).

The release said: “The unique feature of this phone is an emergency button that when pressed sends out 5 simultaneous messages to five pre-loaded numbers and begins calling each number automatically.”

“The key pad and display are designed with large numbers for visibility, a separate exterior button for its torch light,” it added.

Rashida Chowdhury, recipient of the Ratnagorbha Award and wife of a renowned artiste late Mahmudun Nabi, unveiled the phone model at Spectra Convention Center in city’s Gulshan area on Tuesday.

Later, the managing director of Okapia Mobile Tofazzul Hossain made the introductory speech about the model.

However, Okapia ‘Maa’ phone set is available in all outlets across the country from Wednesday. Fahrenheit Marketing Communications Ltd has designed and produced the campaign as the communications partner.

During the course of the events a bilateral contract was signed between Okapia and Bangladesh Association for the Aged and Institute of Geriatric Medicine (BAAIGM).

According to the contract a portion of the sales proceeds from the sale of Okapia ‘Maa’ will be spent towards the improvement of the BAAIGM.

Secretary general of the BAAIGM Professor Dr. ASM Atiqur Rahman, general secretary Mizanur Rahman and the high ups of Okapia Mobiles were present at the event.

“The organizers pointed out that the vision behind the launch of such a model goes beyond just commercial purpose; it also reflects the social responsibility of the company,” the release added.
