DHAKA: Banks will remain open in the readymade garment (RMG) areas on Wednesday despite a national holiday so that the RMG owners can pay wages and bonuses for workers.

Bangladesh Bank (BB) confirmed the matter to the media on Sunday.

According to the BB instruction, scheduled banks will remain open in the RMG areas in Dhaka city, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Narayanganj and Chittagong on the day.

Additional security will be provided to them, the central bank instruction added.

Besides, the previous instruction on keeping the AD branches of the commercial banks open in sea, land and air ports and other areas on Friday and Saturday is on-effect.
