8-storey cruise ship to set sail in Bangladesh

DHAKA: Bringing the European standard facilities with restaurant, children corner, spa and gymnasium, Bangladeshi company Afroza Shipping Line will introduce an 8-storey cruise ship soon.

Moreover, Thai company Siam Group will provide service to the tourists of the ship.

Afroza Shipping Line managing director M Mominul Islam Chowdhury and Siam Group MD Tanaful Chawpaknam signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of their respective sides in city’s The Westin hotel Monday night in this regard.

While speaking as chief guest shipping minister Sahjahan Khan said the initiative to introduce a cruise ship in Bangladesh is praiseworthy. The government will also assist them in all sectors.

But, the company has to be patient because at the first time profit may not fulfill their expectation, he added.



Afroza Sipping Line’s chairman Maqsuda Afroz Chowdhury said, “After the victory of sea border, we wanted to go ahead with the sea. So, we take this step. If every people remain with us, we hope that Bangladesh will become a role model of blue-economy country”.

Managing director Mominul Islam said it was a dream that Bangladeshi passenger ships would float in international waters. Afroza Shipping has been working for a long to materialize the dream.



He said Thailand service sector has earned popularity all over the world for their professionalism. That’s why, we signed the MoU with the Thai company.

Shipping secretary Shafiq Alam Mehedi, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation managing director Commodore Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan and ministry high-ups were also present in the signing ceremony.
