DHAKA: Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith commented that the new customs law will be pro-technology and business-friendly.

‘It will be a modern law for economic sector,’ he added.

The minister made the comments at the inaugural session of a workshop on new customs law at a city hotel on Monday.

National Board of Revenue (NBR) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) jointly organized the four-day workshop started from August 17 on the implementation of the new customs law.

He said that they tried to amend the law in 2009 to modernize it.

According to him, businesspeople will be benefited from the amended law.

Among others, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) president Abdul Matlub Ahmad said that NBR and FBCCI are jointly working for the development of the country.

All problems regarding business will be solved if the law is implemented, he hoped.

Japan ambassador to Bangladesh Masato Watanabe said that the governments of Bangladesh and Japan are working together for the development of Bangladesh economy.

NBR chairman Mohammad Nazibur Rahman presided over the inaugural session.

A total of 40, including 26 customs field-level officers are attending the workshop.
