China assures Bangladesh of reducing trade gap

Chinese President Xi Jinping assured Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of reducing the trade gap between the two countries though necessary measures.

Sheikh Hasina at a bilateral meeting at Hotel Waldorf Astoria informed Xi Jinping that her government will to provide 774 acres of land in Chittagong to set up a Chinese Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

Chinese President said his country considers Bangladesh as one of its important cooperation partners and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as one of their best friends.

He also said cooperation between the countries can be strengthened in the areas of trade, economy, communication and education sectors.

The Chinese President praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her active participation in construction of the BCIM corridor in the region which can bring economic benefit for the people.

Sheikh Hasina thanked Xi Jinping for taking remedial and preferential measures to address the existing trade imbalance.

Both of them agreed on more representation of the two countries in UN bodies.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, PM's Advisor on International Affairs Gowher Rizvi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam and Dr Dipu Moni, MP, were present.
