Applications for the CIPS/DFID PCD Bursaries now open

DHAKA: The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) Foundation is accepting applications for a number of bursaries and scholarships.

This inaugural opportunity arose from an initiative by CIPS Foundation in partnership with the UK’s Department for International Development’s (DFID) Procurement and Commercial Department (PCD).

At present, two bursaries up to the value of £1,000 will be awarded to eligible applicants who currently reside in one of the 28 countries, including Bangladesh where DFID currently operates to help them start or continue their procurement and supply education.

The intention of this bursary is to provide assistance to girls and women in Bangladesh in order to attract, retain and develop the new and emerging talent within procurement by helping bright and gifted girls and women break into and succeed in the profession.

The bursary will cover the cost of course books, exam fees, e-learning and CIPS membership, a CIPS Foundation press release said on Sunday.

According to the release, procurement is growing in popularity worldwide as a profession as well as a career choice.

Public, private and not for profit organizations continue to recognize the value it can add to efficient and effective provision of goods, works and services, it added.

The CIPS Foundation is set up to help individuals who struggle to progress in the procurement and supply profession, whether through hardship, illness, circumstance and discrimination or due to lack of access to formal studies and/or formal employment.

The foundation provides UK & international bursaries up to the value of £1,000 covering the cost of exam fees, course books, e-learning, CIPS membership and mentoring.

Bursaries are open all year round, application forms can be downloaded from www.cips.org/en/foundation or e-mail foundation@cips.org, the release said.
