DHAKA: Australia government asked for applications for its Business Partnerships Platform for international development, inviting businesses to develop new initiatives to reduce poverty in developing countries.

Australian High Commission to Bangladesh on Tuesday issued a media release regarding the matter that said the deadline for applications is December 18.

It also said through the Business Partnerships Platform, the Australian Government aims to collaborate with the private sector to boost the impact of Australia’s aid program.

The Australian Government has invested $7 million to target economic and social outcomes for developing countries. Up to $2 million has been allocated for partnerships that specifically support the economic empowerment of women through business.

The release added that the country will also co-invest between $100,000 and $500,000 for organisations seeking to explore, pilot or expand commercial opportunities that will have a development impact.

Funds provided by the Australian Government must be matched at least 1:1 with investment by businesses.

In Bangladesh, the business partnership priority sectors are education (technical and vocational training), energy, food and beverage, leather goods and garments, mining/extractives.
