DHAKA: An event at the British High Commission Monday night celebrated the work of The Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS), a leading UK professional body, in training Bangladesh government staff in procurement and supply management.
Supported by The World Bank, CIPS has been contracted by Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU), Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) of the Ministry of Planning to develop a procurement skills program for Bangladesh.
Marking the successful completion by the first two cohorts in becoming full Members of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (MCIPS), the occasion was all about achievement in global standards and best practice.
Guests at the event included senior and lead procurement specialists from the World Bank, CPTU and IMED.
Hosting the event, the British High Commissioner in Bangladesh Robert Winnington Gibson CMG said, ‘Recognizable professional qualifications are now essential for anyone working in today’s workplace. I am delighted that a British organization, the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply is the global leader leads in this field and importantly is committed to delivering this program in Bangladesh’.
‘I congratulate all the participants on their achievements today and urge many more to pursue such qualifications in the future.’

The event comes at a time when CIPS is working with the UK Department for International Development (DFID) to offer bursaries with the value of up to £1000 for female candidates who want to join the profession in Bangladesh.
The bursary will help them start or continue their procurement and supply education.
