Dhaka: Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said the returned expatriates would be brought together as they cannot adapt with the country’s socio-cultural situation after spending a long time in foreign lands.

The minister was addressing a program on International Migrants Day 2015 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city on Friday.

Mosharraf Hossain said the government was sincerely considering about bringing the returned expatriates together socio-economically as, sometimes, they loose their hard-earned money by failing to invest properly.

At least, four to five lakhs laborer go to different countries every year for working and send remittances, which is enriching the economy.

Minister also said both men and women have been going abroad for working due to the principles adopted by the government.

Besides, in these days, adept workers are going abroad as incumbent government has put emphasis on providing training to the workers, he added.

The minister also stated that joint efforts of public and private sectors have to be continued to develop expatriate workers health, information flow to enhance their awareness and skill development.

The Bangladesh missions in foreign countries also have to be pro-active, he added.

Expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment minister Nurul Islam chaired the program.

State Minister for Foreign affairs Shahriar Alam, chairman of parliamentary standing committee on expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun and director general of the Bureau of the Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) Begum Shamsun Nahar were present here.
