DHAKA: Distribution of a loan of Tk 200-crore among the grassroot people involved in dairy production and artificial insemination sector began on Wednesday with the view to make Bangladesh self-sufficient in dairy production.

The interest rate of the loan will be five percent.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the loan disbursement program in city’s Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium this morning by handing over checks to a few selected borrowers.

The premier also urged the borrowers to use the money properly.

Moreover, she asked the authorities concerned to provide the credit facilities and government-offered services to the farmers.

With fisheries and livestock secretary Mohammad Masudul Hasan Khan in the chair, fisheries and livestock minister Mohammed Sayedul Haque, state minister Narayon Chandra Chanda, Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman and others spoke at the event.
