The first meeting of the National Steering Board (NSB) of the Bangladesh Water Multi-Stakeholder Partnership (Water MSP) was held on January 30, 2016 at The Westin hotel in Dhaka under the chair of the cabinet secretary.

The NSB made key decisions to establish and operationalize the Bangladesh Water MSP.

This includes formation of the three work-streams on Water Governance, Greater Dhaka Watershed Restoration and Agri-Water.

The 2030 WRG supported the formation of the Water MSP for Bangladesh. The Hon’ble Prime Minister has approved the Bangladesh Water MSP which was subsequently notified through a gazette on December 6, 2015.

The Bangladesh Water MSP is composed of key policy-makers (from the Ministries of Water Resources, Finance, Planning, Commerce, Agriculture,  Local Government, Environment, PPP Office and other government agencies), civil society (such as BRAC), distinguished business leaders, industry associations (such as BGMEA) and water sector experts.

The bilateral and multi-lateral development partners and donor agencies will take an active role in the process through providing expert assistance, advisory services and by facilitating targeted stakeholder engagement on specific issues or thematic areas.

The Water MSP will be dedicated to address water sector issues and develop specific work-streams.

The multi-stakeholder dialogue will focus on the identification, design and implementation of ‘Transformative Collective Action’ (Projects).

The transformative projects will aim to make significant contribution to improving water security by reducing the demand-supply gap and / or improving the quality of available water resources for agricultural, industrial, domestic use and to ensure sustainability of essential eco-system services.

The 2030 WRG Bangladesh Secretariat will facilitate the MSP.
