5.62pc inflation, lowest in 41 months

DHAKA: The inflation rate of the country has been dropped at 5.62 percent which is the lowest in 41 months as the supply of grocery products has been raised and the price of imported products dropped.

According to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics information, the inflation rate has been dropped in every index in February than the previous month when the rate was 6.07 percent.

In February 2016, people paid additional Tk 5.62 for goods of Tk 100. It was 6.07 percent in the same month of the previous year.

Panning minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told this to the media after ECNEC meeting at NEC centre of the Planning Commission in city on Tuesday (March 8).

In food products, the inflation rate was 3.77 percent. It was 4.33 percent in January and the inflation rate of other products except food was 8.46 percent in February which was 8.78 percent in January.

BBS said the inflation rate of food has been raised as the price of fish, meat, vegetables, spice and medicines become lower.

Supply of the products has been raised and on the other side house rent, furniture, health service, transport and price of the educational materials become lower due to the lesser prices of oil in international market.

The planning minister said the purchasing ability of people has increase which has been influencing the inflation rate.

Price of the daily commodities has gradually been decreasing in the international market that gives the businessmen capacity to import products in lower price.
