DHAKA: In further boost to bilateral ties, Bangladesh will get supply of 100 MW power from India and Bangladesh will start export of internet bandwidth to India from March 23.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi would jointly launch them on the day through video conference.

Recently, Indian external affairs ministry spokesperson Bikash Sarup said this in a weekly briefing.

National Informatics Centre (NIC), which is arranging video linkage between New Delhi, Dhaka and Agartala conducted link test on Monday (March 15).

BSNL and the OTPC (ONGC Tripura Power Corporation) have also unleashed activities for smooth operation of power supply from 726MW gas based power plant at Palatana to Comilla grid in Bangladesh and import of 10 GB internet bandwidth from Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh to Agartala.

Prime Minister Hasina during her visit to Agartala in 2012 made a request for supply of 100MW power from Palatana project.

In June last year, BSNL had signed a deal with Submarine Cable Company Limited of Bangladesh (BSCCL), which would provide high-speed internet bandwidth from Cox Bazar in southeast Bangladesh in presence of Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi in Dhaka.

BSNL already conducted Acceptance Testing after completing OFC joint at Akhaura border in Agartala. From February 7, Tripura is facilitating with 10GBPS bandwidth services from Bangladesh on test run. This will get formal shape on March 23.
