DHAKA: Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said that two Bangladesh Bank (BB) governors Nazneen Sultana and Abul Kashem have been removed from their posts.
The minister made this disclosure to the media prior to the pre-budget discussion with non-government organization officials held at National Economic Council (NEC) conference room at city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Tuesday afternoon (March 15).
‘The governor is already gone and the two deputy governors will also be removed.’
He further said that new officials will be appointed to the posts through a circulation.
About the names of the two deputy governors, the minister first uttered the name of Nazneen Sultana and later nodded to the name of Abul Kashem as the journalists mentioned it.
However, the two other deputy-governors are SK Sur Chowdhury and Abu Hena Mohammad Razi. Both of their tenures have been extended to 2018.
Earlier on Tuesday, Abul Kashem was announced as interim governor of the central bank following the resignation of Dr Atiur Rahman as governor amid criticism over the bank’s reserve heist from US Federal Bank.
He was the number-1 deputy governor of the central bank of Bangladesh.
