DHAKA: Indian minister for petroleum and natural gas Dharmendra Pradhan flagged off Thursday from Siliguri of West Bengal a train carrying 2,200-MT gasoil as a goodwill gesture to Bangladesh.
The consignment will be received in Parbatipur of Bangladesh by Bangladesh state minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid and Indian high commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla on March 19.
This event is a very significant as it highlights of the cooperation between India and Bangladesh in the energy sector as outlined in the Joint Declaration ‘Notun Projonmo, Nayi Disha’ adopted during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh in June, 2015, said a press release.
It will be recalled that a Memorandum of Understanding signed between NRL and BPC on April 20 in 2015 in Dhaka for implementation of the 130-km Indo-Bangla Friendship Pipeline (IBFPL) capacity from NRL's Siliguri Marketing Terminal (West Bengal) to BPC's Parbatipur Petroleum Product Storage Depot in Dinajpur district through a Joint Venture (JV) Company having equity participation from both NRL and BPC.
NRL has supplied this first 2,200-MT consignment of gasoil at a goodwill price as proposed by BPC, the release added.
