DHAKA: AFM Shariful Islam has been appointed as new managing director (MD) of National Bank Limited (NBL).

The appointment was confirmed through a press release issued by the bank on Saturday (March 26).

The release said Shariful Islam will observe duties of MD for the next three years from March 24, the date of his appointment.

Earlier, he observed duties as additional managing director of NBL.

After completing graduation with Honors and Master’s in Economics from Rajshahi University he started his career as probationary officer in Arab Bangladesh Bank Ltd in 1986.

Subsequently he worked at Dhaka Bank Ltd., Prime Bank Ltd., Social Investment Bank Ltd. and South East Bank Ltd.

He was also appointed as CEO of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in 2009.
