Demands for Walton AC go up

DHAKA: The sales of air conditioners (ACs) have been moved up across the country with the advent of sweltering heat as people started purchasing ACs of both the local and the international brands to get relief from the heat.

This year, the people are experiencing hot weather a little bit earlier.

From the beginning of March, the country’s temperature is gradually soaring up. Thus, both the weather forecasters and people are predicting sweltering heat in the coming days. To get rid of the heat, the people have already started buying air conditioners, pushed the sales of ACs to be increased.

But this time, customers’ choices have been changed. They now prefer local brands than foreign ones. Among the local brands, the Walton brand’s ACs are the customers’ prime attraction.

Following the last year’s huge turnover, Walton has set an annual target of bagging about 45 to 50 percent growth in the sales of its AC.

The Walton authorities are predicting that the demands for ACs would be increased to large scales in the coming days. To ensure smooth supply of ACs during the peak season, Walton has already increased the production of air conditioners at its factory, creating sufficient stock.

Walton registered about 45 percent growth in the sales of its AC in March this year compared to the same month of the previous year, they said and hoped that the current year’s target of bagging about 50 percent growth than the previous year would be fulfilled. To meet the target, Walton has already taken massive preparations from its production process to marketing strategies.

At present, the local brand is producing different sorts of highest standard ACs, ranging from 1 ton to 2 ton, at Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited at Chandra in Gazipur.

The customers will get the Walton brand’s AC between Tk 31,500 and Tk 57,600. The company will soon release 4 and 5 ton ceiling and cassette types ACs. In addition, inverter technology based 1.5 ton AC are under the production process, which will hit the market very soon.

Amdadul Hoque Sarker, executive director and marketing head of Walton Group, said, “Producing world-class AC with the assurance of perfect BTU (British Thermal Unit) through most advanced machines and latest technologies like ‘Golden Fin, eye-caching design and color, cheap rate, six months replacement guarantee, a wide sales network and service points are resulted in going up the demands for Walton ACs among the customers.”

Walton is going ahead with the target of grabbing lion portion of the local market of air conditioners, he said and hoped that Walton will secure the premier brand in terms of AC sales at the end of this year.

Engineer Mazharul Islam, head of AC R&D of Walton Group, said, they are applying new technology named ‘Anti-corrosive hydrophilic golden color fin’ in their AC condenser unit whereas such technology is not available in other brands’ AC.

This feature will enhance durability and operative life of the AC’s heat exchanger, even at salty air environment, sunlight dust, wind or harsh conditions, he added.

It was learnt that the annual demands of AC in Bangladesh is around 1.61lakh pieces whereas the annual production capacity of AC at Walton Hi-Tech Industries is about 3 lakh, almost doubled of the prevailing local demands.

Earlier, the local demands were met with the imported air conditioners. At present, high quality ACs are being manufacture within the country.

By the production of world-class high tech ACs, the country’s leading electronics goods manufacturing company ‘Walton’ is not only saving huge amount of local currency from the import bills but also bagging significant amount of foreign currencies through exporting ACs, which are congenial to the weather of importers’ countries, said a press release on Wednesday (March 30).
