Probe body submits full report on BB heist

DHAKA: The committee constituted to investigate the cyber heist of foreign reserve at Bangladesh Bank (BB) submitted its full report to the finance minister AMA Muhith at his secretariat office on Monday afternoon (May 30).

Committee head former BB governor Dr. Farashuddin handed over the report to the minister around 2:15pm.

Incumbent BB governor Fazle Kabir, probe committee member Professor Dr. Mohammad Kaikobad of BUET’s science and engineering department and finance ministry’s additional secretary Gokul Chand Das were present here.

Earlier, the committee submitted an interim report to the minister on April 20.

On the next day, Muhith said he would publish the full version of the report so that countrymen can know what happened.

In early February, hackers sent several orders through SWIFT to transfer $101 million from Bangladesh Bank’s account in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

A transfer of $20 million to Sri Lanka was halted but $81 million was transferred in and beyond the Philippines.

The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported the theft at the end of February.
