A court in Dhaka on Saturday (Aug 30) sent content creator Tawhid Afridi to jail, denying his bail in connection with the murder of Asadul Haque Babu during the July Uprising in the Jatrabari area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Piyas passed the order after Afridi, who had been on a five-day remand, was produced before the court.
Earlier, the investigation officer (IO) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Inspector Khan Mohammad Erfan, requested the court to keep Afridi in custody to gather more information about the murder.
Afridi’s lawyer applied for bail during the hearing, while the prosecution opposed the request. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail plea and ordered that Afridi be sent to jail.
A CID team had arrested Afridi from Barishal on August 24 and placed him on a five-day remand the following day.
Asadul Haque Babu, 24, was shot during the July Uprising in Jatrabari on August 5, 2024, and later declared dead at a hospital.
His father, Zainal Abedin, filed a murder case at Jatrabari Police Station on August 30, 2024, against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 24 others, including Nasir Uddin Sathi and his son Tawhid Afridi.
