Dengue: 3 die, 425 hospitalised across Bangladesh

Three more people have died of dengue in the last 24 hours across the country, while 425 new dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals, according to the latest update from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The information was confirmed in a press release issued on Tuesday (July 8) by the DGHS.

Among the newly admitted patients, 120 are from outside Barishal city, 98 from areas outside Chattogram city, 36 from areas outside Dhaka city, 38 from Dhaka North City Corporation, 55 from Dhaka South City Corporation, 18 from outside Khulna city, 11 from outside Mymensingh city, 48 from outside Rajshahi city, and one from outside Sylhet city.

In the past 24 hours, 377 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of discharged patients this year to 11,786.

As of July 7 this year, a total of 13,188 people have been infected with dengue. Of them, 59.3 percent are male and 40.7 percent female.

With the three latest fatalities—two from Dhaka North City Corporation and one from Khulna division—the total dengue death toll in 2025 has risen to 51.

Last year, from January 1 to December 31, 2024, a total of 101,214 people were infected with dengue, and 575 died from the mosquito-borne disease.

In comparison, the dengue outbreak in 2023 was deadlier, with 1,705 deaths and 321,179 hospital admissions recorded throughout the year.
