Four more people died and 319 hospitalised of dengue across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
DGHS issued a press release in this regard on Tuesday (July 23).
Among the newly hospitalised patients, 89 were from areas outside Barishal City Corporation, 38 from outside Chattogram City Corporation, 59 from outside Dhaka City, 29 from Dhaka North City Corporation, and 61 from Dhaka South City Corporation. Additionally, nine cases were reported outside Mymensingh City, 30 in Rajshahi division (outside city areas), and four in Rangpur division (outside city areas).
A total of 331 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries this year to 16,960, the DGHS said.
From January 1 to July 23, 2024, a total of 18,345 people have been infected with dengue, of whom 58.7 percent are male and 41.3 percent female.
The latest four fatalities include three residents of Dhaka South City Corporation and one from Chattogram division. This brings the official death toll from dengue this year to 69.
Last year, from January to December 2023, a total of 1,705 dengue-related deaths were recorded, while 321,179 people were hospitalised across the country. In contrast, 101,214 dengue cases and 575 deaths were reported for the entire year of 2024 so far, according to DGHS data.
