Six more people died from dengue while 647 others were hospitalised across the country in the 24 hours till Thursday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With the latest fatalities, the official death toll from the mosquito-borne disease has climbed to 167 this year.

Of the new deaths, two were reported in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), two in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), one in Barishal division, and one in Chattogram division.

During the reporting period, 647 fresh cases were recorded, bringing the total number of dengue patients this year to 38,527.

The DGHS breakdown of new cases is as follows: 113 in DNCC, 128 in DSCC, 102 in Dhaka Division (outside city corporation), 108 in Barishal Division (outside city corporation), 96 in Chattogram Division (outside city corporation), 25 in Mymensingh Division (outside city corporation), 37 in Khulna Division (outside city corporation), and 38 in Rajshahi Division (outside city corporation).

Currently, 717 patients are receiving treatment in Dhaka hospitals, while 2,042 remain admitted across the country.

The DGHS report said 62.6% of patients were male, while 37.4% were female.

Last year, dengue claimed 575 lives, with 101,214 reported cases and 100,040 recoveries.
