DHAKA: Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov is expected to pay a visit to Tehran in the coming days to discuss bilateral relations and Iran’s nuclear programme after clinching a landmark deal between the Islamic republic and the major powers last month.
‘A visit by Sergei Lavrov to Iran is planned for December 10 to 11,’ a Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman told media, Tehran Times publishes this report on Saturday.
During the visit, Lavrov plans to discuss ‘bilateral relations, regional problems and regulating the questions over (Iran’s) nuclear programme in the context of the agreements reached recently in Geneva,’ the spokeswoman said.
Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) clinched a deal on November 24 according to which Iran agreed to offer a number of concessions in exchange for limited relief from the sanctions imposed on the country.
Iran is to hold expert-level talks with major powers on its nuclear program next week in Vienna.
