DHAKA: The whole family of an uncle of North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un, Jang Song Thaek, has been executed on Kim Jong Un’s order.
This is what South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency reports, with reference to multiple sources, says The Voice of Russia.
Jang Song Thaek himself, once a high-ranking official, has been executed earlier.
A source that is aware of the situation in North Korea says that the entire family, including babies, was executed.
According to the data of the Yonhap agency, in December, Jang Song Thaek’s elder sister and her husband Jon Yong-Jin, who was North Korea’s Ambassador to Cuba, and Jang Song Thaek’s nephew Jang Yong Chol, who was Ambassador to Malaysia, and Jang Yong Chol’s two sons, both aged about 20, were called back to Pyohgyang and executed.
Jang Song Thaek also had two brothers, but both have died of an illness earlier. This is why it was the families of Jang’s sisters, including their little grandchildren, who were repressed.
The agency reports that the members of the family who showed resistance against their arresters were killed in front of their houses before the eyes of the neighbours.
Women who were not Jang Song Thaek’s blood relatives were not executed.
Jang Yong Chol’s wife was forced to divorce her husband and sent with her family to a camp in a faraway region.
Jang Song Thaek used to be something like a regent under the young Kim Jong Un and was considered to be the second influential person in the country.
In mid December, 67-year-old Jang Song Thaek was charged of attempting a coup and executed.
Later, it became known that that Jang Song Thaek’s wife Kim Kyong-hui, who is a sister of Kim Jong Un’s father, was in a coma because she had had a brain operation. No further information about her destiny has come yet.
