DHAKA: Anti-Congress protests broke out in New Delhi on Thursday over Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Sikh groups protested outside the AICC office in the national capital, breaking barricades and chanting anti-Congress slogans.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had in an interview on January 27 admitted that some Congress members were probably involved in the 1984 riots, in which many innocent people had died.

‘Some Congressmen were probably involved ... There is a legal process through which they have gone through ... Some Congressmen have been punished for it,’ he had said in his first exclusive TV interview to Times Now, reports The Times of India.

The protesters demanded that Congress should reveal the names of partymen who were involved in the riots.

Delhi Police had to use water cannons to control the situation and disperse the protesters.
Rahul`s statement had triggered the ire of various opposition parties and Sikh groups.

Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on January 28 said the courts should take suo motu notice of Rahul’s remarks on the anti-Sikh riots, asking Punjab Congress leaders to quit the party after such a ‘confession’.
