At least 13 people were killed in fresh Israeli air strikes across Gaza on Wednesday, as the death toll from attacks the previous day climbed to more than 100, including several journalists.

Homes, neighbourhoods and shelters were among the targets hit on Tuesday.

Spain’s Prime Minister said Europe’s handling of the conflict in Gaza amounted to a “failure” that risked damaging its credibility on the global stage.

His remarks came as Belgium announced sweeping new measures against Israel, including sanctions, an expanded arms embargo, and a ban on imports of Israeli goods and services.

The health toll in Gaza continues to mount, with at least 63,633 Palestinians killed and 160,914 wounded since the war began in October 2023.

In Israel, 1,139 people were killed in the Hamas-led October 7 attacks, during which about 200 others were taken captive.

The latest escalation underscores Europe’s deepening divisions over how to respond to the war, even as Israel presses ahead with military operations that have devastated Gaza.
