DHAKA: General Qamar Javed Bajwa has been named as Pakistan’s new army chief.

A channel Geo News’s special correspondent Rana Qamar said General Bajwa’s name had been finalized by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday (November 26), reports the Hindustan Times.

General Zubair Hayat has been appointed chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. General Hayat was serving as chief of general staff (CGS) prior to his present appointment.

Lt Gen Bajwa is from the Pakistan Military Academy’s 62nd long course.

He was earlier the commander of the important Rawalpindi Corps and is at present the Inspector General of Training and Evaluation at the headquarters, a position Gen Raheel Sharif held before becoming army chief.
