DHAKA: The Malaysian authorities detained more than a hundred immigrant workers including 60 Bangladeshis in a drive conducted at a market in Kuala Lumpur, as part of the crackdown on illegal immigrants.
The drive was conducted at Kenanga Wholesale City in Hang Tuah Road, since the morning to noon on Wednesday (November 1).
Some Bangladeshi workers employed at the large market said that Malaysian joint force including police and immigration officials started checking documents of them, in the drive launched at around 11:00am.
Over hundred immigrant workers from different countries including 60 Bangladeshis were detained from there, in the drive continued till 2:00pm.
It was alleged that some Bangladeshis were nabbed despite having valid work permit papers, due to some complications among the employers regarding the renew process.
