DHAKA: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ranked 30th among the world’s 100 most powerful women in 2017 by influential business magazine Forbes.
The list of 100 most powerful women by the US-based global magazine published Wednesday (November 1).
In the list, Hasina jumped 6 spots from last year’s 36th. Earlier, she came 59th in 2015.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel retained top spot, the seventh time in a row.
“In stark contrast to Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar, the "lady of Dhaka" (Sheikh Hasina) has promised aid to Rohingya Muslim refugees fleeing Myanmar, allotting 2,000 acres of land in Bangladesh for the refugees”, Forbes writes besides Hasina’s profile on their website.
However, earlier this year British media bestowed Hasina with the epithet of ‘Mother of Humanity’ for her contribution on saving lakhs of Rohingya people, forcefully driven out from their homes in Myanmar.
