The death toll from the typhoon ‘Damrey’ that struck Vietnam on Saturday (November 4) rose to 49 while more than 27 missing.

The authorities said that most of the casualties were from Khan Hoa province.  

The typhoon battered Nha Trang city of Khan Hoa province located in the southern and central Vietnam.

More than 82,000 homes have been damaged, roads have gone under water due to incessant rainfall, causing disruption for vehicles in some provinces. 

The popular UNESCO heritage town of Hoi An has been submerged by flood water 1.5-metre deep, where more than 1 million tourists visit each year.

In Da Nang, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit has began on Monday (November 6)

Authorities said that pre-schedule could be disrupted if rainfall lingers on.

All the Asia-Pacific leaders, including President of the United States Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin are to join the summit.
