DHAKA: A German embassy bodyguard has been shot dead in an attempted kidnapping in Yemen, according to reports.
A security official told media that a German envoy escaped the attempted abduction in Sana’a, reports Sky News.
Gunmen in a vehicle opened fire at the victim as he was leaving a shop in the capital’s southern Hada district, where foreign embassies are located.
Western diplomatic sources confirmed the attack without specifying the victim’s identity or his position at the embassy.
Germany was among several Western countries, including the US, which closed their embassies in August following warnings of an al Qaeda attack.
The missions were later reopened.
