DHAKA: Gunmen have killed five Egyptian soldiers near the Suez Canal city of Ismailiya, say security officials.

The gunmen opened fire on the soldiers while they were sitting in a car at a checkpoint north of the city, reports said, according to the BBC.

Security forces have been repeatedly targeted in the area in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, a large car bomb has struck a security forces’ building in Sinai, officials said.

Two people are reported to have died.
