My Daily Routine Coffee, Joy, Sweatpants & More

The biggest lesson I’ve learned when it comes to my daily routine is that being present for whatever's happening is the most valuable, fun and magical practice.

When I’m home in New York City, I feel so spoiled, lucky and fortunate to be surrounded by the community at Strala, and our visitors from around the world. When I’m not in New York, I also feel so spoiled, lucky and fortunate to lead classes and connect with people who are committed to the greater good.

Here's a snapshot of one of my typical days in New York City, my home base.

630am Mike Taylor’s iPad starts playing bird noises. Waking up at this hour is a luxury for me because it means I'm not at a shoot or on a plane. I slow crawl over him and over to the shelf to turn it off. He showers, I stretch and do my version of lazy morning bed yoga, capping it off with a few moments of meditation supported by the headboard (or Mike’s back on his return from the shower).

I shower, brush teeth, moisturize, and get on my Strala stretchy clothes, ready for the day!

This is my simple, delicious go-to breakfast

Green Dream

1 banana
1 handful of spinach
1 cup of almond milk
Blend and enjoy!

730am Coffee stop at La Colombe; Mike and I are usually the first or second people in line, unless there's a massive sneaker sale happening next door. In that case the line might have a few more urban-fashion-inspired kids who camped out overnight, noticing that La Colombe’s doors are now open.

740am We show up at Strala. Chat with studio manager Rae, and hang out with the regulars and visitors rolling in for 8am class.

8am Gather the folks to jam out for a Strala STRONG class. We move with ease. We sweat. We play great tunes. All is right with the world.

9am Super-fun chitchat with everyone in the class. I like to drag this out as much as possible. My favorite part of owning a studio is getting to know the people who come through.

930 to 6pm This chunk of the day, even on a “regular day” (which doesn't REALLY exist) is highly variable. Sometimes I’ll be in the office working on Strala global projects, or doing more typical CEO stuff, like scheduled meetings mixed with the occasional long walks to do my thinking.

My favorite days are during trainings, when there are people from around the world hanging out at the studio and we do workshops on what leading is like. On a normal day I like to escape for a noon or 4pm Strala class, justifying my sweatpants look for the day.

I always make time for snacks, lunch and walking breaks. I’ll snack on pretty much anything simple and yummy, like dill pickles, nuts, fruit, homemade snacks and leftovers from recipe testing. Lunch is often soup from the Soho Lady, or Dean & Deluca veggie sushi. Often I’ll take a break to cook up some lunch and wait for inspiration.

7pm to 9pm Dinner at home for Mike and me, and often a few guests. We usually have homemade meals Mike whips up from Make Your Own Rules Diet (he cooks dishes right out of the book, which is quite adorable) or I improvise. Takeout from the Thai place happens at least twice a week. Malaysian veggie curry soup is an all-season favorite.

9pm to 11pm Proper chill time is on. If I have work that can’t wait, I’ll do it, or if I’m super inspired to work on something, I may take this time to dive in. That said, I've made it a priority to carve out this proper home relaxation time. We’re usually lying two-deep on the couch, resting. I often pass out during a rub down and complain like a toddler when Mike wakes me up to brush my teeth and go to sleep properly.
