Make a hot style statement this Diwali

This is the time when youngsters get ready to flaunt clothing that would make a real style statement. This year, a mix of desi and Western seem to be defining swag. We tell you about the latest trends and styles you could opt for this festive season, as suggested by some of the city's fashionistas and trend setters.

Women, opt for indo-Western wear
Crop tops, long kurtis and pallazos seem to be ruling the roost among women this season. While ladies are going gaga over the options available, many are either choosing between the traditional festive sarees or mixing and matching with desi and Western wear. Kiraaya Sharma, a college student, said, At my place, it has always been the tradition of wearing sarees on Diwali, which leaves us with no option when it comes to experimenting. But this year, we decided to think of an innovative way to drape the saree, and came up with the idea of a dhoti saree. This is a unique way of draping the saree, making the one wearing it look more chic. Likewise, young girls are opting for the crop top over traditional lehangas to wear the modern-yet-back-to-the-roots look.

Quirky accessories to complement your look
Accessories can make or break one's look. Hence youngsters are opting to sport accessories that are quirky and complement their attire. While neon has been a popular colour this year, a lot of gold is being seen at fashion stores. From box clutches to shoes, both men and women are choosing to make gold their festive colour. Leema Shah, an accessory designer from the city, said, One needs a few essentials to match his or her outfit with. It reflects one's personality. Men can choose to experiment with shoes that can go with their traditional attire, while women can experiment with ornaments and bags. According to a jewellery store owner from Rajarampuri area, girls have been opting for nathnis, mang tikkas and chand balis to pair with Indo-western wear.

Some new styles for men
Today's men don't mind trying and going in for new styles, according to fashion designer Pinky Kachhela. Intricate prints and patterns like floral ones are the perfect options for a guy to sport during the festive season. If he is skeptical about going in for something like this, experimenting with velvet and silk is also a hot option, albeit that might get a bit heavy and uncomfortable to sport for a long time. The most important aspect of style is comfort, and the market is full of a variety of different styles for men including Nehru jackets, velvet sherwanis and even rockstar jackets that are both comfortable as well as trendy. Men can pair a simple jute-style kurta with jeans, or put on a leather jacket, especially for card parties. For that traditional look, a sherwani in bright colours will do the job, added Kachhela. Men are also opting for simple silk kurtas with subtle embroidery that isn't just light and comfortable but brings out simplicity and masculine grace in every way, mentioned Kachhela.
