A Dhaka court on Thursday (October 5) granted bail to Mohammad Ishtiaque Mahmud, another accused in a case filed over the attack on former US ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat's convoy in August 2018.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Nurul Huda Chowdhury passed the order after hearing both sides.
Earlier on October 4, police arrested Mohammad Ishtiaq Mahmud, brother-in-law of Badiul Alam Majumdar, secretary of Citizens for Good Governance (SHUJAN) from Mohammodpur area in the capital.
On September 19, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) submitted a supplementary charge sheet to the court against nine people including Ishtiaq Mahmud in the case.
Recently, a Dhaka court accepted the supplementary charge sheet against nine people including Ishtiaque and Naimul Hasan Rasel, president of Mohammadpur unit of BCL.
The other accused are -- Mir Amzad Hossain Akash, Firoz Mahmud, Sazu Islam, Razibul Islam Razu, Shahidul Alam Khan Kajol, Siam and Oli Ahmed Jony -- are now on bail.
On January 1, 2023, the court of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Karim Chowdhury ordered DB to further investigate the case and submit the report.
Badiul Alam Majumdar, Secretary of SHUJAN, filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station on August 10 for the alleged attack on the convoy on August 4, 2018.
