Rail communication between Khulna and the rest of the country was cut off early Wednesday (Oct 23) when eight oil tankers of a Khulna-bound freight train derailed near Ansarbaria station in Jibannagar Upazila, Chuadanga.
According to Uthli Railway Station Master Mintu Kumar, the train, carrying 32 empty tankers, was en route from Dhaka to Khulna when the derailment occurred around 3 a.m. near the 11-number point of the track, close to Ansarbaria station.
A rescue train from Ishurdi in Pabna has been working on removing the derailed tankers since dawn, and efforts to restore rail services are ongoing.
According to Chuadanga Station Master, operations at Ansarbaria station remain suspended while the recovery work is underway. Train services will resume once the rescue operation is complete, he said.
