Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has said today that expatriate Bangladeshis holding National Identity (smart) cards will be able to cast their votes through postal ballots in the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad elections.
To enable this, the Election Commission is developing a mobile application titled “Postal Ballot BD.”
The CEC, currently on an official visit to Canada, made the remarks while exchanging views with expatriate Bangladeshis at a discussion organized by the Bangladesh Consulate General in Toronto. The event also marked the launch of smart national identity card distribution abroad.
Inaugurating the programme, Nasir Uddin urged expatriates to participate in the polls, highlighting the Election Commission’s preparations, the voter registration process for Bangladeshis abroad, and the mechanisms for casting ballots from overseas.
Expatriates expressed gratitude for the initiative and thanked the consulate for facilitating the dialogue. The meeting, attended by over 100 Bangladeshis including businessmen, doctors, engineers, academics, journalists, and students, was conducted by Consul General Md Faruk Hossain.
