DHAKA: Eleven shops of saris and readymade garments burnt down as a fire wrecked Masjid market in South Keraniganj on Tuesday night, leaving 10 people wounded.

Firefighters and locals assumed that the fire ignited from an electric short circuit in a shop of the market at 10 pm. Two fire units from Fullbaria Headquarters and Shyampur doused the fire after one and a half hours of combat.

The shop owners estimated the damages to be nearly Tk 40 lakh. But assistant director of Fire Brigade Dilip Kumar Ghose said, “It seems the damages could be a bit more than Tk 20 lakh.”
