DHAKA: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid Wednesday vowed to ensure cent-percent literacy in the country by 2014, thereby fulfilling one of the millennium development goals (MDGs) set by the United Nations.
“We will reach the goal building up the nation by ensuring modern and quality education by the stipulated time,” he said at a workshop in the city.
The Institute of Education and Research (IER) of the University of Dhaka arranged the national workshop titled ‘Strategy to implement the Education Policy 2010’ at IER Bhaban.
Addressing the workshop as chief guest the Minister also said, “With the principle of progressive attitude the new education policy has been formulated and the government is now planning to implement it successfully.”
Vice-chancellor of Dhaka University AAMS Arefin Siddique at the meet urged the students to go for fundamental education coming out from GPA-5-oriented studies.
Dr. Siddique Ur Rahman, member of the National Education Policy Formulation Committee, read out the keynote while Salma Akther, Director of the IER, was in the chair.
Among others, Education Secretary Syed Ataur Rahman, Economist Quazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad and Dhaka University Pro-VC Prof Harun-Or-Rashid attended the meet.
